Narcotic drugs seized, dealers arrested

Four suspected drug dealers have been arrested in Police operations conducted in different parts of the country. 

Those arrested include dealers in cannabis and kanyanga, an illicit gin, Police said. 

They were apprehended on April 2, in Rubavu, Nyagatare and Ngoma districts with combined seize 9kgs of cannabis and 110 litters of kanyanga.

"The 9kgs of cannabis were seized from a dealer in Rubavu, who was at the time attempting to cross into Rwanda from DRC," said Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Bonaventure Karekezi, the Police spokespersonfor the Western region, said.

Other 12 pellets of cannabis were seized from arreated retailers in Ngoma district.

CIP Hamudun Twizeyimana, the Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, said that kanyanga dealers were arrested in Rwimiyaga and Kiyombe sectors after they trafficked the contraband into the country from Uganda.

Police commended the role of the public in breaking chains of drug dealers through information sharing on dealers in their communities as well as routes and tricks they use.
