Forty youth representatives in Shingiro Sector in Musanze District, on September 3, held a meeting to discuss key issues ranging from security to welfare.
The event is part of the annual meeting that brings together youth in Shingiro sector, to review achievements of the set objectives, identify challenges and as a result draw new strategies to the above issues.
The meeting took place in Kibunguzo Cell.
Cyprien Munyaneza, one of the participants, challenged his fellow youth to be key partners in crime prevention campaigns in order to achieve sustainable development of their communities.
He advised participants of the meeting to refrain from any criminal activities, and play a central role in raising awareness among the youth to ensure the younger stars join hands together and participate towards the development of communities and the country in general.
AIP Sylvester Kagurusu, the Musanze District Liaison Officer (DCLO), told the youth that, consumption of drugs like cannabis, Kanyanga, leads to crimes including assault, defilement, theft, and Gender Based Violence.
He also cited unwanted pregnancies, school drop-outs and early parenthood among other drug related effects.
He appealed to the participants to refrain from drug abuse and report those involved.
Aimable Iyakaremye, the Executive Secretary of Shingiro Sector, lauded Rwanda National Police’ s continued efforts to protect the youth from drug abuse and its related effects.
“An innovative and well-behaved young generation symbolizes strength of the country.” Said Iyakaremye adding that, the advises given to the youth by RNP is very important as it reminded them of their role in crime prevention campaigns.
Iyakaremye appealed to the youth to ignore any possible misleading and negative thoughts and instead stay focused on their developmental activities.
He urged them to embrace and be part of government programs and initiatives like the monthly Community work (Umuganda) and Ndi Umunyarwanda.
