In an effort to form a critical mass of residents contributing to community policing, Police in Musanze district has reached out to secondary schools students to work in unison in achieving a crime-free society.
In this line, the Musanze District Community Liaison Officer, Inspector of Police (IP) Viateur Ntiyamira, met with students of Regina Pacis secondary school in Muhoza sector to persuade them join hands with law enforcers to eliminate crime.
In his address to the student, IP Ntiyamira said that over years residents in the district have became safer with less crime, including violence, falling in figures of drug abusers and traffickers, among others, thanks to Community oriented policing efforts to control crime.
Community policing he said is philosophy that balances both reactive and proactive, including aspects of traditional law enforcement as well as problem solving community engagements and partnerships.
He asked students and teachers to enhance their efforts if the country is to win the battle against crime.
“A nation cannot develop unless safety and security of its people is well looked into. It is the work of police to create a crime free country, this can’t be achieved by police alone but with collective efforts from the public and other stake holders, we can,” IP Ntiyamira said.
Students at the school formed two anti-GBV clubs and two other anti-drug abuse clubs which IP Ntiyamira believes wil instill discipline among the students, show them the right path and influence positive behavior change.
He commended the students’ initiative as a right tool in crime prevention.
He urged them to always share timely information with police and utilize the available communication facilities, to report anything illegal in their respective neighborhoods.
RNP currently has nine toll-free lines on top of other communication channels like phone contacts, online reporting system and social media, which provide platforms for information flow feedback and spontaneous responses
