The Regional Police Commander (RPC) for the Northern region, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Jean Baptiste Ntaganira met with road users in Musanze District on Wednesday and urged them to use the road responsibly to avoid causing or involving in an accident.
The meeting held in Musanze bus terminal brought together drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists, passengers and pedestrians.
ACP Ntaganira told them that traffic rules and regulations were put in place to ensure their safety and urged them to respect them.
"Traffic rules and regulations should be respected by every road user; driver, motorcyclist, cyclist and pedestrian; when one person violates them it could be fatal," the RPC said.
He observed that some road users violate them intentionally citing motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians as the majority violators and victims.
"Respect pedestrian crosswalks and regulate your speed because most accidents are due to over speeding," ACP Ntaganira said.
"With or without any pedestrian crossing the road on crosswalks, as a responsible and professional driver or driver you should anticipate that there is someone and slow down as a precaution."
He further appealed to pedestrians to also be conscious while crossing or using the road adding that "careless crossing has in many cases led to lose of lives."
The RPC also called for partnership in community policing in fighting and preventing crimes by reporting drug dealers, smugglers and other wrongdoers.
