Police in Musanze have urged managers of private security firms operating in the district to be vigilant and work with other security organs to exchange information on suspected criminals.
Police said private security service providers must ensure that proper vetting is conducted as well as effective monitoring of the operations of their personnel.
The call was made by the Northern region Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alex Rugigana while meeting owners and managers of private security firms operating in Musanze town on Wednesday.
The meeting aimed at strengthening partnership and narrowing security gaps that exist in private security companies in execution of their duties.
CIP Rugigana urged them to be security sensitive adding that failure to comply with the regulations would also be met with sanctions, including the revocation of operating license by the police.
There are about 17 licensed private security companies in the country. Rwanda National Police (RNP) oversees Private Security Service Providers.
The spokesperson urged them to uphold customer quality standards by avoiding rudeness and maintaining proper body hygiene.
“The qualities of a good security firm include; having guards, who are knowledgeable, physically fit, have value for human life, understanding rights and responsibilities, respect and love their duties and also have the ability to lead and follow,” CIP Rugigana said.
He reiterated the commitment of Rwanda National Police to continue offering capacity building activities to all private players in the security sector.
Hundreds of private security personnel have been trained by RNP and equipped with security skills in various fields.
