Musanze: GS Kigombe students urged to desist from illicit temptations

At least 300 students of Kigombe Secondary School in Musanze District have been urged to desist from all acts of lawlessness.

The appeal was made by Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Northern Region Police Spokesperson during a regular community policing exercise to sensitize the youth against the dire consequences of abusing illicit substances.

CIP Twizeyimana called upon the youngsters to concentrate on their studies and avoid indulging in malpractices like abusing narcotic drugs and sexual acts that result into teenage pregnancies and dropping out of school.

He reminded the students to face their future through education, report their colleagues who abuse drugs so that they are helped and rehabilitated.

Rehabilitating addicts is one of the ways to prevent drug abuse, train and empower those rehabilitated to engage technical and vocational activities. Sensitization and breaking chains of supply is also another way of preventing new users.

The young people, he said, have always been the target of human traffickers’ because of their yearning to get rich quickly hence falling into criminal traps of human trafficking activities.

“You should make effort to reject such offers from either strange people or even relatives that try to seduce you with offers abroad or outside their communities. These people want to sell you as commodities and to deny you your education dream and the future,” he explained.

“The intentions of such people are to drag you into commercial sexual purposes and hard labour activities," he added, urging them to always report such people.

The spokesperson also invited the youth to utilize the Police communication channels to share any information against anything illegal or suspicious for quick response.
