Musanze: CPCs challenged on preserving security and order

The District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) of Musanze District, Inspector of Police (IP) Viateur Ntiyamira has called upon members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs) in the district to revitalize their policing duties and focus much on preventing crimes by detecting anything that can result into breach of public order and  cause insecurity.

IP Ntiyamira also said that despite tremendous step in dealing with crimes related to illicit drugs and gender based violence, the two crimes are still common in the district, which requires concerted efforts to detect and combat them.

He was speaking to members of CPCs in a meeting held in Gacaca Sector on May 16.

The meeting was also attended by local leaders in the sector, cell and villages.

“Irondo – night patrols – and neighborhood were initiated to further make community policing meaningful and successful, but its success mainly lies in your hands as people on the ground,” IP Ntiyamira said.

“You equally have a significant role to play in the safety and security of your respective societies and to sensitize the people on their responsibility to report anything illegal or criminal as well,” he added.

He further urged them to be exemplary, act professionally and be the people’s voice.

He also told them to fight child abuse by identifying those who employ minors as house-help, adding that “all children are supposed to be in school.”

Pélagie Mukanyandwi, the executive secretary of Gacaca Sector appealed to the CPCs to heed the police’s call and be result-focused.
