Musanze: CPCs acquire crime prevention skills

Community Policing Committees (CPCs) from Musanze District have been equipped with proactive skills in crime reporting and good governance.

The training held in Rwanza Sector on February 13, was aimed at improving their skills in reporting and proper dissemination of information regarding crime as well as supplementing development programmes.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Viateur Ntiyamira, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) of Musanze told them that their contribution to peace and security is highly valued by Rwandans and they should not relent.

“Rwanda National Police and Rwandans in general are counting on you to work with them to address their security issues. Police expects you to report such concerns and anything unlawful so as to fight or prevent them,” Ntiyamira said.

“The role of the CPCs is very vital and therefore such trainings are necessity since they play a big role in curbing crime,” said CIP Ntiyamira.

Meanwhile, the DCLO said that the community policing training will continue in all sectors. Last week, similar exercise benefited CPCs of Muhoza Sector.

Community policing has been influential in reducing crime throughout the country and is run on a philosophy that promotes proactive partnerships with the communities.

The RNP, through its community policing programme, carry out sensitization campaigns with different communities  encouraging them to quit lawlessness  and work with authorities in preventing criminal activities such as prostitution, and other serious crimes including murder, robbery and illicit drug abuse.
