Musanze: Commercial motorcyclists to ensure own regulation on traffic rules

Commercial motorcycle operators in Musanze district have moved to penalize any member of their own who continues to breach traffic rules and create a bad name of their profession.

The decision was reached on November 11 during their meeting held in Kigombe cell of Muhoza sector attended by over 200 motorcyclists organized under a cooperative in a French acronym, COTRAMO.

Agustin Ntaganda, the head of COTRAMO said they found it vital to take a step and initiate an internal regulatory system to ensure that members operate with extreme care to prevent road accidents.

Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Sylvestre Kagurusu, the District Community Liaison Officer to always be cautious in their operations, follow road safety guidelines, but also report any criminal acts.

He cited carelessness, over-speeding and bad maneuvers are some of the causes of accidents among motorcyclists.

He noted said that some of them operate without all the requirements like driving licence, transport authorization and insurance.

AIP Kagurusu thanked them for initiating an internal regulatory framework and urged them to cooperate with security organs and Police in particular to fight and prevent crimes, be vigilant of people and luggage they transport to avoid falling prey of being victims of illegal acts.
