Musanze: Christians of Restoration Church urged to be ambassadors of road safety

The ongoing national road safety campaign was extended to Christians of Restoration Church in Musanze District, who were urged to use the road safely to avoid causing or falling victims of accidents.

They were also urged to be ambassadors of road safety and share the message with other road users.

Pastor Jonas Matabaro, while addressing his congregation on Sunday, said that God wants his people to live a healthy and prosperous life.

"Respecting traffic rules and regulations means staying safe and making your passengers, loved ones, pedestrians and other motorists on road safe," Pastor Matabaro told the congregation.

“Rwanda National Police always encourages us to drive and use the road safely; let's own this and be ambassadors so that this message may reach and be understood by all Rwandans and build a country where safety on road is guaranteed," he added.

Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Alexis Rugigana, the Police spokesperson for the Northern Region reminded the Christians of their responsibility on road to avoid fatalities that are largely caused by reckless behaviours of drivers or pedestrians.

“As Christians, we expect you to protect and save other people, teach your children and friends how to use the road safely, support national efforts to save lives on roads, it starts with you," CIP Rugigana said.

He explained that Gerayo Amahoro campaign is designed to educate all groups of road users to prevent behaviors that lead to fatal accidents such as driving under influence of alcohol or other psychotropic substances, speeding and other violations of traffic rules.

CIP Rugigana urged pedestrians to always use the left side of the road facing the incoming traffic, avoid using a phone when crossing the road and to develop positive attitudes and decisions when using the road.

Gerayo Amahoro is a 52-week road safety campaign aimed at changing road users’ attitudes and behaviors to prevent road accidents.
