Bicycle taxi operators in Musanze District have been warned against reckless riding causing accidents.
During their meeting on May 12 held at Ubworoherane stadium in Muhoza sector, Inspector of Police, Jean Bosco Minani, the District Police Commander urged them to always follow road safety measures and strengthen their collaboration with Police in fighting and preventing crimes to further improve security in the district.
He observed that some of their colleagues have been implicated in drug related crimes like sell and consumption of narcotics, illicit brew and gin like kanyanga while others are involved in domestic crimes.
IP Minani appealed to them to lay internal guidelines to help them perform professionally and solve their problems, penalize those who violate traffic rules and also fight corruption.
Cazmil Ngayaberura, President of the bicycle taxi operators’ cooperative in the district said also observed that some of the members have been implicated in crimes, including transporting illegal luggage.
“We therefore gathered here to evaluate and reorganize ourselves to improve our services and strengthen our cooperation with security organs in the campaign to ensure sustainable security,” Ngayaberura said.
“Without security, we also can’t operator and earn a living. This means it is also our responsibility to also fight anything that can affect our business,” he added.
