Muhanga: Students sensitized on dangers of abusing illicit drugs

Police in Muhanga District, on November 13, engaged students of GS St Joseph Kabgayi in discussions aimed at enriching their understanding on ill-effects of using narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. 

The students were given an insight on common narcotic drugs in Rwanda and laws again the vice.

Common drugs in Rwanda, as students were explained, include cannabis, gins like kanyanga, chief waragi, zebra waragi, Blue sky, khat commonly known as mayirungi and other locally distilled substances with different names.

The District Police Commander (DPC) of Muhanga, Supt. Thiery Munanira, while addressing the students urged them to focus on their education instead of wasting their future to drugs.

"Drugs are harmful to your health but also criminal to use, sell them or make someone to use narcotic drugs," Supt. Munanira told the students. 

The DPC reminded them that policing and fighting illicit drugs and crimes in general is equally their responsibility by reporting drug dealers.

He also urged them to report their colleagues who abuse drugs to as to be rehabilitated.
