Muhanga: Students sensitized on dangers of abusing drugs

Students of Cukiro Secondary School located in Nyarusange Sector of Muhanga District were on October 18 sensitized on dangers of abusing drugs as Rwanda National Police (RNP) and partners continue to strengthen measures to prevent the young people from falling prey.

The students were asked to desist from abusing drugs and to report anyone that tries to introduce them to drugs or who deal in such psychotropic substances.

Inspector of Police (IP) Innocent Musabyimana, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) of Muhanga asked the students to be the eye and voice against narcotics such as cannabis, kanyanga and other illicit substances as well as inhaling agents.

“Narcotic drugs pose serious threat to health, education, family harmony and development, the labourforce and the overall safety and security," IP Musabyimana told the students.

"Some of your colleagues or agemates turned addicts are currently battling the serious effects of drugs in rehabilitation centres, so prevention is better than cure; stay safe and healthy by saying no to drugs but also fighting the scourge by reporting dealers," he added.

He urged them to seize the opportunities given to them by law, their country and parents to have education and skilful and competitive citizens who will be relevant to drive the development agenda of their country.

He also sensitized them on human trafficking and tricks used to lure especially the young people into modern day slavery, and urged them to report all sorts of abuses the face or witness.
