Muhanga: Man arrested with counterfeit Euros

Police in Muhanga District are holding a 32 year old man identified as Modeste Nsengiyumva after he was found in possession of £1300, all fake.

Inspector of Police (IP) Claver Kayihura, the acting District Police Commander, confirmed that Nsengiyumva, a businessman in Muhanga, was arrested as he attempted to deposit the counterfeit currencies in the bank.

“We received information from the bank about someone who was trying to deposit fake notes and he was arrested in the process with the forgeries,” IP Kayihura said.

“Investigations are still underway to find out the origin of the counterfeit money, and arrest anyone that could possibly be connected to this financial crime,” he added.

Article 604 of the Rwandan penal code which states that using or circulating, by any means, items misrepresented as money or negotiable instruments shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of two to five years and a fine of two to ten times the value of the counterfeit money.
