Muhanga: CPCs challenged on crime prevention

Muhanga District Police Commander (DPC) Supt. Albert Mpumuro, has urged members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs) in Shyogwe sector  to put more emphasis in crime prevention to avert illegal and criminal activities in the area rather  than dealing with the consequences.

He made the call on November 4 during a meeting with over 200 members of CPCs, held  in Kinini cell.

Supt. Mpumuro said there are still many cases of drug abuse including sell and consumption of kanyanga, chief waragi, cannabis and other locally made illicit brew.

"Double your efforts, patrols and map-out individuals involved in drug dealings, and even families facing domestic disputes, which will help in dealing with the root-cause and eventually be on a preventive side rather than dealing with the consequences," Supt. Mpumuro said.

“Drugs weaken one’s thinking capacity. The unconsciousness drives to committing or being involved in crimes like assault, theft, gender and domestic violence," he observed.

He urged them to increase the awareness against human trafficking and fight the sell of alcoholic beverages to under-aged children.

The sector Executive Secretary, Jean Baptiste Mugunga, lauded Police for the advice and also appealed to CPCs to reinforce security in the sector.

He urged  them to uphold  discipline and invest much in crime prevention.
