PHOTOS: Gerayo Amahoro campaign in communities and churches

The Gerayo Amahoro road safety campaign was at the centre stage in communities during the after-umuganda discussions and in churches, on Saturday, July 29.

During the campaigns in communities across the country, and in churches, Police highlighted human reckless behaviors that lead road accidents, loss of lives, lifetime injuries and destruction of property.

Speeding, drunk-driving, use of phone while driving, reckless crossing and maneuvers are among the major human behaviours causing fatal accidents.

Pedestrians, cyclists and taxi-moto operators are the majority victims of road carnage.

The Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson, Commissioner of Police (CP ) John Bosco Kabera, while addressing a congregation attending 'Africa Haguruka' crusade in Gisozi, Gasabo District; he reminded them that roads are built for all users, which requires respect for each other.

"Police has a duty to ensure road safety and to protect all categories of road users. As a pedestrian or motorist, it is equally your duty to ensure the safety of people on the road, and that goes with respecting traffic rules and regulations, and valuing lives," CP Kabera said.

The continuous countrywide mass campaign seeks to influence behavioral change among all groups of road users to make road safety a choice and culture.
