Member of Parliament Clothilde Mukakarangwa has challenged residents of Nyakabanda sector in Nyarugenge district to be the solution to security challenges they face and partner with Police in safeguarding the rule of law and ensuring safety in general.
The legislator made the call recently during the tenth anniversary of the community mediators, Abunzi, in an event held in Munanira II cell.
She also lauded the integrity and impact of the mediators in community justice and harmony.
Mukakarangwa, however, warned residents against "self-justice" and advised them to seek the services of Abunzi and other institutions like Police, which are there for them.
The Mayor of Nyarugenge Solange Mukasonga urged them to be innovate and work hard to improve their personal and family well-being.
Senior Supt. (SSP) Edward Kayitare, Nyarugenge District Police Commander singled out drug abuse as a major security concern that requires collective approach to combat it.
He also appealed to them to beware of conmen and people who pretend to give them better offers abroad with intent to traffic them for exploitative and hard labour activities.
