Motorcyclists in Nyabihu form anti-crime club

Taxi-moto ‎operators in Nyabihu District organised under their cooperative - COTAMOKANYA - have stepped in the footsteps of their colleagues in other parts of the country to form an anti-crime club as an effective means to put ideas together to fight and prevent crimes.

The club of commercial motorcyclists operating in Jenda Sector that will strengthen the community policing activities in Nyabihu was formed on February 4 in an event attended by police and local leaders in the district.

Police has continued its crimes preventive campaign with the calls to commercial motorcyclists operating in Nyabihu district to play a significant role in ensuring public safety.

James Iyakaremye, who was elected the head of the anti-crime club said; “this club is a channel for us to exchange information about public safety and also ensure we collaborate with the police in fighting crimes in our neighborhoods.”

He added that; “if our clients aren’t secure we aren’t secure either and our business will be affected. To ensure that we keep making money, we need to fight all sorts of crime at all levels.”

AIP Uwizera, the District Community Liaison Officer of Nyabihu thanked the motorists for the initiative saying that such a move signals their commitment in ensuring public safety.

“You have been our partners in crime prevention but this time, we have no doubt your performance will be tremendous. Rwanda National Police is committed to supporting you with all means possible to ensure that we collectively achieve our goal of making Rwanda a crime-free nation,” she said.

She however seized the opportunity to urge them to abide by traffic rules and regulations saying that, “being part of ensuring safety means respecting road safety signs and riding responsibly while respecting roadside signs."
