Motorcyclist detained for bribe attempt

Police in Remera, Gasabo District is holding a commercial motorcycle operator for allegedly attempting to bribe a police officer to exempt him from traffic violation penalties.

Alphonse Kwizera, a resident of Kagunga cell, Gikondo sector of Kicukiro district, on May 24, allegedly offered a bribe of Rwf2000 to a traffic police officer at Gisementi after the later caught him operating without a driving licence and the motorcycle had no insurance.

Supt. Modeste Mbabazi, Police spokesperson for central region warned the public against acts of bribery to try to erase their illegal acts.
“Fighting corruption is one of the priorities of Rwanda National Police and this, officers know it very well. The public should also know that they will be arrested if they try it,” Supt. Mbabazi said.

He also warned road users especially drivers and motorcyclists against operating without required legal documents like driving licence, insurance, one of the essential documents required before hitting the road.

“Possessing these documents is a pre-requisite but moving with them is another compulsory part,” he added.
