A commercial motorcycle operator was arrested on June 6 in Kabarole sector of Gatsibo district after he allegedly tried to bribe a police officer to avoid being penalized over traffic offences.
Albert Nzeyimana, 30, allegedly offered a bribe of Rwf10, 000 to a police officer after the latter caught him in Kabarole trading centre, operating on a motorcycle which had no number plate and insurance.
The suspect is currently detained at Kabarole Police station as investigations continue.
Senior Supt. Benoit Nsengiyumva, Police spokesperson for Eastern region lauded the officer for acting professionally adding that corruption is a “zero stance” in the force.
He also warned the public against such illegal acts of bribery to try to erase their illegal acts.
“Whoever tries such will be arrested,” SSP Nsengiyumva warned.
He also warned road users especially drivers and motorcyclists against operating without all legal documents like driving licence, insurance mechanically certified vehicles and wearing helmets for the case of motorists.
