About 155 members of COTAMONYA, a commercial motorcycle cooperative in Nyabugogo, Nyarugenge District met on May 28 to discuss ways of improving their profession.
During the meeting attended by 155 members, it was observed that some of the members continue to tarnish the name of their profession and their cooperative in particular by indulging in various malpractices.
Abdul Ntaganzwa, the President of the cooperative noted that some of their members still breach traffic rules such as refusing to stop when asked by traffic police officers, violate traffic lights and Zebra crossings.
He urged them to protect the image of their profession by observing traffic rules, adding that they will start to penalise undisciplined and defiant members.
Assistant Inspector of Police, Aimable Ntagwabira, the District Community Liaison Officer them of their role in ensuring security adding that fighting and preventing crimes be consumed as the obligation of every.
He warned against over speeding, reckless driving and the use of illicit drugs.
AIP Ntagwabira observed that some motorcyclists are either drug dealers or abusers and in some cases they are under the influence of drugs.
He highlighted that information sharing is an effective tool that could help a big deal in fighting and preventing traffic offences caused by motorists.
