The ongoing crackdown on a group involved in break-in in Kigali city especially targeting electronics, has continued to yield positive results as more equipment are recovered.

The Police operation which has so far arrested three people said to be ringleaders in night robberies has recovered other 16 computers, ten flat screens and two home theatres.

Others include car radios, a DVD deck and a piano. Police also impounded a vehicle (pick-up) which the suspects were using to transport the stolen goods to various destinations in Kigali.

The vehicle belongs to the suspects. The suspects were paraded before journalists on July 14 at Kicukiro Police station, where all the wide range of the recovered equipment were taken.

The operation which started last Wednesday had in the first two days recovered 13 television sets, eight computers, 12 mobile phones, three digital cameras, a projector, twelve external hard disks, a printer, generator and home theatres.

Most of the equipment were recovered in Kacyiru sector of Gasabo District while others were found in Kimihurura and Gisozi in the same district.

Supt. Modeste Mbabazi, Police spokesperson for the Central region said other electronics were recovered in the countryside where they had been sold.

“The suspects in custody, who are actually heads of the gang, are cooperating in the entire operation and they have volunteered to show us where sold all the things they stole and almost all the gadgets recovered was due to information they gave us and even led us to where they are,” Supt. Mbabazi said.

“We have information and list of other people connected to this robbery ring and other stolen goods that are yet to be recovered, but the operation is still on,” he added.

He also appealed to all those who lost their equipment to go to Remera Police station to check if they are among the recovered.

Police also handed to one of the victims, Seth Butera nine laptops stolen from his company called Dash Technologies, last week.

Butera said he reported the theft last week and  thanked RNP for recovering his computers.
