More stolen electronics recovered in Kigali

An ongoing operation to crackdown on electronic theft especially in the City of Kigali has led to the arrest of two people including a woman, in Kicukiro District believed to be part of the ring.

Amon Rugamba, 22, and Jesca Dusabe 20, were apprehended in an operation conducted over the weekend in Kanombe Sector.

According to a Police report, the duo was found in possession of two stolen iPads, a computer, decoder, two scanners and a smart handset. They were recovered in a house of one of the suspects in Rubirizi Cell.

The suspects are currently detained at Kanombe Police station as investigations continue.

Acting Police spokesperson for the central region, CIP Richard Iyamuremye warned that the operation against house break-in especially at night targeting electronics “is not to end soon to ensure that those involved face justice.”

“The good side of this is that the public are so much helpful in this operation, they provide us with relevant information on people involved in this criminal business,” CIP Iyamuremye said.

“Sometimes, members of the public provide us with information of suspicious individuals who don’t work, residing in their communities; this guides us in our operation. At times some of these individuals are drug dealers,” he added.

“We also conduct operations on black shops that buy and sell these stolen electronics, and most of the recovered gadgets are in our showroom at Kigali Metropolitan Police Headquarters in Remera, where victims can come and identify their recovered gadgets.”

At least about one hundred television sets that include flat screens, and over one hundred computers recovered in separate police operations, are yet to be collected by their owners.

Other recovered items include home theaters, speakers, decoders, DVD decks and car radios.
