The Mobile Police Station vehicle, on its second tour in Nyarugenge District on May 29, reached out to residents of Rugarama Cell and delivered police services to over 300 residents who queued up to report complaints and injustices that they may have faced.
The vehicle was stationed at Rwarutabura market and most of the cases they reported ranged from asset ownership, land wrangles, gender-based-violence and theft among others.
Due to the importance of the service, residents called out to Rwanda National Police (RNP) to increase the number of times the vehicles visits their area.
After the exercise, residents gathered together with police officers and local leaders to discuss about solutions to persistent challenges to security and safety, where they pledged to partner with Police in order to foster lawfulness.
The Director of the Anti-Narcotics Unit at RNP, Senior Superintendent of Police Urbain Mwiseneza, commended residents for partnering with police in the continuous operations conducted to curb criminality and urged them to maintain this positive attitude.
“Working together through community policing will ensure that criminals are kept away and crimes solved efficiently,” he said.
“Young people should be advised to avoid using drugs and instead concentrate on their studies and businesses in order to become the future leaders and play their role in developing Rwanda.”
One of the Cell leaders present in the campaign, Erneste Murenzi, commended Police for endeavoring to reach out to residents wherever they may be, and reminded participants present to be ambassadors of community policing and deliver the message to others in their neighborhoods.
Augustin Habimana, a resident of Rugarama, added that sometimes residents do not have time to make complaints and sometimes others have to travel long distances to report complaints – but this is now no longer the case due to the Mobile Station Police Vehicles.
“We are glad that this service finds us at our work places, homes and in market places where it becomes very easy to access police services whenever we need them.
This is an indication that police is willing to get closer to the people it serves and we also pledge to do our part in maintaining law and order,” he said.
The Mobile Police Station Vehicle was introduced last year to extend police services to citizens living or working in places far away from Police stations.
RNP currently has three Mobile Station Vehicles that cover all remote areas which are in need of police services.
