Ministries lay comprehensive strategies to improve human security for Rwandans

A National Security Meeting held on 10 February at the Ministry of Defense offices in Kimihurura laid comprehensive plans to improve human security in the country and commended the status of security in the country and the enormous role of citizens in ensuring their safety.

The Inter-Ministerial meeting, which brought together Ministers, Governors, Mayors and Officials from Defence, Police and other Security Organs aimed at discussing the security status in the country.

The high level security meeting focused on a wide range of human security issues such as, health, food security, crimes, youth delinquency, and drug abuse among others.

The meeting adopted strategies to enhance coordination and collaboration among all stakeholders for quick implementation of government programs.

The RDF Spokesperson, Brig Gen Joseph Nzabamwita said the meeting resolved that local leaders and security officials should more be engaged and available to work hand-in-hand with the local population in their respective areas.

The meeting also resolved that more efforts be made at local administrative levels to encourage the public to subscribe to the local health insurance (mutuelle de Santé), to ensure the local population get access to medical services.

Other resolutions adopted include, sensitizing the youth to engage in income generating activities and also participate actively in different government development activities.

The population was further commended for their consciousness on security and asked to maintain the cooperation with local leaders to further prevent and fight crimes.

The meeting highlighted neighborhood watch, night patrols and information sharing as some of the best strategies that citizens need to embark on to effectively address criminality in the country.

Regarding FDLR genocidal forces, he advised them to lay down arms, surrender voluntarily and return home through Nkamira and Mutobo camps where they must go through the normal demobilisation programme to join their compatriots in developing the country.

He called on MONUSCO to execute their mandate of fighting the FDLR and eradicate it from Eastern DRC for the sake of regional stability and development.

The meeting was attended by the ministers; James Kabarebe of Defence,  Musa Fazil Harelimana of Internal Security, James Musoni of local government, Agnes Karibata of Agriculture and Agnes Binagwaho of Health.
