The Minister for Local Government, Francis Kaboneka has called upon local leaders and security organs in Gatsibo district to promote teamwork in tackling security and development issues in the district.
The Minister made the call on October 28 in Gatsibo during the district general assembly which focused on security, governance and community development.
“Security is a key to development. Leaders are there to serve and be accountable to citizens,” Minister Kaboneka said.
"Leaders must be hardworking and selfless. They go to bed late and wake up early and this is the basis to transformation," he added.
"Dignity and leadership are about actions not position…Gatsibo should improve in its performance.”
The Inspector General of Police Emmanuel K. Gasana commended the leaders and residents for timely information exchange and urged them to tighten measures against crimes like drug abuse, gender violence.
He further urged them to strengthen partnership as per the memorandum of understanding signed between RNP and Gatsibo in March 2012, which focuses on enhancing community policing and poverty alleviation.
On behalf of RNP, the Police Chief also gave a cow to an area resident, Steven Nkunda for his outstanding and active participation in community policing and crime prevention in particular.
