A man suspected of forging documents including bank-slips has been arrested in Muhanga District.
Jean Baptiste Dukuzumuremyi was arrested on Wednesday following investigations into about five cases reported at Muhanga Technical School, where six forged bankslips were detected.
The District Police Commander of Muhanga, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Jean Bosco Karega, said that “during investigations, they interrogated the six implicated students, who all collaborated information implicating Dukuzumuremyi to be the brain behind.”
“The school administration reported a case of six students of senior Four, Five and Six, who brought forged bankslips. When we interrogated the students, Dukuzumuremyi’s name came up; that’s how we arrested him with some of the materials he was allegedly using in the criminal act including a computer, all which have been seized to facilitate ongoing investigations,” CIP Karega said.
“The forged bankslips were worth Rwf40, 6500, but we are still investigating both Dukuzumuremyi and the students to come out with a conclusive case file to be forwarded to prosecution. If there is anyone else connected to this criminal act, they will also be arrested to face justice,” he noted.
Forgery or alteration of documents is punishable with an imprisonment of between five and seven years and a fine of up to Rwf3 million under article 609 of the penal code.
