Isaac Hakizimana, a resident of Mukingo cell in Busasamana sector of Nyanza district was arrested by police on October 8 in connection with forging and selling drivers licence.
Hakizimana, 27 was found in possession of two forged licence at the time of his arrest.
The two licences, both in category A were in names of one Sosthene Niyomugabo and Samuel Macumi.
It is alleged that the suspect was selling the forged licence at Rwf250, 000 each.
He is currently detained at Busasamana Police Station as investigations continue.
Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Emmanuel Kabanda, the spokesperson for the Traffic and Road Safety department said the arrest followed information provided by area residents who knew his illegal business.
CIP Kabanda also warned the public against acquiring driving licenses through illegal channels.
“All those seeking a driver’s license should go through proper channels; register online for both provisional and definitive tests which are conducted every month instead of taking short but impossible means,” CIP Kabanda said.
“The public should work with the police in reporting such people who try to sell them forge legal documents because if they are caught, they will also be treated as accomplice,” he added.
Article 609 of the penal code stipulates that, any person who forges or alters documents by forged signature or fingerprint, falsifying documents or signatures or impersonation, forging agreements, its provisions, obligations, discharged obligations shall be liable to a term of imprisonment of between five and seven years and a fine of Rwf300, 000 to Rwf3 million.
