Man arrested for distributing fake money

A mam identified as Jean Paul Hakizimana  is currently detained at Nyamirambo police station after he was arrested in Kigali in connection with counterfeiting and distributing fake Rwandan currency notes.

 Hakizimana, who hails from Karongi district was arrested on May 16 Kimisagara Sector of Nyarugenge district with fake notes amounting to Rwf40000, all fake.

 He was identified and reported by a Tigo Cash agent, whom he had given it to deposit it on his Tigo Cash account.

 Supt. Jean Bosco Mudacumura, Ag Nyarugenge District Police Commander said , he urged the business community to always be mindful of such crooks.

 "Providing information on such wrongdoers in time is crucial so that they are arrested. Hakizimana was apprehended and money recovered because the would be victim was quick to report the incident."

 Anyone found guilty of counterfeiting Rwandan currency faces a jail term of between five and seven years, under article 601 of the penal code.

 Articles 601 and 602 also punish those, who knowingly circulates fake monies and those who acquires fake currencies unknowingly, but circulates them after discovering they are counterfeit.
