Man arrested for defiling 14 year old girl

A man identified as Theophile Tuyisenge was arrested as the prime suspect in the defilement of a 14 year old girl in Kicukiro District.

The 26 year old suspect is currently held at Masaka Police Station, while the victim received medical treatment and counseling at Masaka Hospital.

Police Spokesperson for Central Region, Superintendent Modeste Mbabazi noted that the Tuyisenge – who is a casual laborer - is suspected to have committed the heinous crime on August 8, from inside his house where he had lured his victim.

“He deceived the girl into entering his house, and when she did, he defiled her. The girl screamed for help and that is when residents in the area alerted police, and he was arrested before he could escape,” Superintendent Mbabazi said.

“Police commends residents for always providing timely information, which helps to apprehend dangerous suspects such as these. Police also ensures that Victims of defilement are always given help as soon as possible so that they heal completely from their traumatic experience.”

He also urged parents, guardians and the general public continue the practice of forwarding timely information to Police in cases of defilement and rape in order to wipe out the scourge.

“Police has the ability, skills and knowledge to conduct quality investigations in such cases, but timely information is very crucial. We also conduct countrywide sensitization campaigns to educate masses about the dangers of defilement, rape and other gender related acts of violence,” he added.

Police established a toll free number 3512, where information from the public concerning GBV can be reported so that immediate action can commence.

Article 191 of the Penal Code punishes defilement with to life imprisonment.
