A MAN in Kigali has been arrested over allegations of forging stamps of various public and private institutions including schools and hotels.
Laurent Twagirayesu, 38, a graduate Engineer from the University of Rwanda-College of Science and Technology (UR-CST) was arrested on June 26 in Kicukiro district.
Police also recovered forged stamps including those of Serena hotel, Rubavu district and various schools.
Also recovered at his house are stamps for ghost constructions companies called MADICAN and EPEFOC, allegedly owned by the suspect.
It is said that Twagirayesu, who is currently detained at Kicukiro Police station, has also been disguising as the notary officer for Rubavu district and defrauding people to notify their documents.
Twagirayesu, while speaking to the media on Thursday, confessed to the crime and begged to be pardoned.
Superintendent Modeste Mbabazi, Police spokesperson for central region said the suspect was arrested with the help of his wife.
He called upon the general public to always report suspected persons and illegal activities done in their localities.
