Make crime prevention your duty, Ngororero youth told

The young generation should be aggressive in fighting all forms of crime and to ensure that all security and development initiatives are effectively and efficiently implemented, the District Police Commander of Ngororero, Senior Supt. Marc Gasangwa told the youth, yesterday.

The DPC was addressing about 70 youth in Ngororero, including members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing.

He told them to desist and fight tendencies that are against the law or affect the wellbeing of others and lead them into conflict with the law.

"Be ambassadors of peace and security in your communities, be innovative and work together as a team to put your good ideas to good use to develop yourselves and communities," SSP Gasangwa told the youth.

He told them that money blown in narcotic drugs should rather be invested in legal business.

He reiterated the commitment of Rwanda National Police in supporting all their efforts in combating crime, and urged them to always inform the police whenever they suspect or witness anything illegal.

"The law is yours to implement as well, and that's what community policing requires of your to be an eye for your neighbor; whenever you report a crime or a criminal you are protecting your neighbor and the community, and ultimately promoting security and peace in your country," he said.

He also urged them to fight and report injustices like domestic violence, child abuse, corruption and misuse of public goods.
