Local leaders urged tighten security mechanisms

Local leaders in Gisagara District have been urged to put more emphasis on crime prevention measures rather than wait to face the consequences of crimes that may go undetected.

The District Mayor, Léandre Karekezi, delivered the message this week during a meeting with several leaders, the District Police Commander (DPC), Supt. Callixte Kalisa.

“Crimes can be prevented if we work together and increase our efforts. However, sometimes we spend a lot of our time and resources responding to committed crimes. All leaders must cooperate and fulfill their duties efficiently in order to safeguard the development and peace of Rwanda,” Karekezi, said.

He appealed to the leaders to expressively campaign against drugs and alcohol abuse, which usually fuels crimes such as burglary, murder, rape and gender-based violence in the district.

He also called them to tighten night patrols and sensitize residents against any kind of misconducts including drunkenness.

“Do not stop working with Police and other security agencies; provide them with the information they need to safeguard residents against criminals that are always thinking about how they can commit crimes without being stopped by the law,” he added.

In his message, Supt Kalisa urged the leaders to continue campaigning against the sell and consumption of banned drugs and illicit brew.

He lauded residents in the area for their collaboration with Police, and encouraged them to maintain the good spirit, which has enabled Police to clamp down many notorious criminals including drug dealers and thieves.
