Kirehe: Students tutored on crime prevention

Police in Kirehe District have appealed students to focus on their education and play an active role in the safety and security of their communities.

The students were urged to remain vigilant by looking out to any active and potential security threats to life and property and alerting police and authorities to make corrective interventions.

The call was made on February 27, by Inspector of Police (IP) Gahigi Harerimana, the District Community Liaison Officer of Kirehe, while addressing over 700 students of Groupe Scolaire Curazo in Gatore Sector.

IP Gahigi engaged the students on the issue of consuming illicit drugs, its consequences to users, and urged them to join police efforts to identify and arrest dealers as a way of breaking chains of supply.

Kirehe is one of the marked drug trafficking routes, where Police has put efforts through awareness and operations to break trafficking rings and routes.

“Don’t allow drug dealers to turn you into their market; they are poisoning you at the expense of their criminal minds,” IP Gahigi told the residents.

IP Gahigi called upon the youngsters to concentrate on their studies, shun things that can reign their education dreams like abusing drugs, sexual practices which lead to unwanted pregnancies and early parenthood.

“Marriage is only allowed at the age of 21 and above. Early marriages and pregnancy bring health risks both to the underage mother and the baby; it's an economic and social issue that you should stand up against and report it,” IP Gahigi told the students.
