Residents of Kirehe district rescued a one month old baby girl who was abandoned by the unknown mother.
The tot was recovered on April 20 abandoned in a kitchen of one André Ndaribitse in Kirehe sector.
Sophia Umutoni, an area resident said she had a baby crying as she was passing by the kitchen.
She then entered the kitchen only to find the baby wrapped in clothes crying and called neighbours.
Another resident, Marie Grace Umuhoza rushed the baby to Kirehe Hospital for medical check up where she was declared healthy.
Umuhoza is currently taking care of the child as investigations continue to locate the mother.
The Eastern region Police Spokesperson, Senior Supt. Bénoit Nsengiyumva thanked the residents for the loving spirit and added that Police in partnership with the community is doing all possible to locate the evil mother.
He also advised women to always plan when to have children and practice family planning.
Drug abuse is also said to be the cause of unwanted pregnancies as it lures girls to sexual acts.
