Over 500 residents of Kazizi cell in Nyamugari sector of Kirehe District met on October 20 to assess security status in their area and to devise mechanisms to reinforce deal with security challenges in the area.
Déogratias Nemeyabahizi, an area resident said they found it necessary to meet as residents to discuss on things that concern them, including security.
“You see, when there is insecurity in the area, it’s us residents who face the consequences. It should therefore lead role to work out common plan to prevent anything that can cause insecurity without waiting for police to come,” Nemeyabahizi told fellow residents.
“It is our things that are stolen, children go astray after consuming cannabis and other illicit drugs; tell me who is affected, is it police or us,” Nemeyabahizi wondered.
Assistant Inspector of Police Gahigi Harelimana, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), who attended the meeting, thanked them for the initiative to be the solution to security problems they face.
He urged them to put much emphasis in fighting drug abuse and also be vigilant about people who pretend to be having jobs abroad with intent to traffic them for hard labour, sexual exploitation and other exploitative activities.
The further urged them to tighten night patrols, identify families with conflicts so that they are solved and appealed to them live in harmony.
