Kirehe: DASSO members urged to be exemplary

The national coordinator of District Administrative Security Support Organ (DASSO), Chief Supt. Sam Rumanzi, has urged administrative security personnel members to act exemplary if they are to win the trust and partnership with the people.

The coordinator made the call on September 22 in Kirehe District where he addressed 67 members of DASSO. The meeting aimed at assessing their performance.

Chief Supt. Rumanzi commended them for their contribution to security, but challenged them to double the effort to ensure that the loopholes that still exist are narrowed.

He urged them to enhance law enforcement and forge a closer partnership with security institutions and the general public in a bid to ensure crime prevention.

The coordinator also reminded them to stick to their duties and responsibilities in ensuring safety and security.

Established by a May 10, 2013 law, Dasso is a district organ that has been mandated to support law enforcement in districts.

The law tasks them to arrest any person involved in disruption of public order and hand them over to the Police; to inform an administration entity of any suspicious security threat, among others.

“You are a legal established security support organ, and Rwandans expect you to live up to your mandate and to work with them and other security organs to ensure that the wellbeing of the people is reassured,” said Chief Supt. Rumanzi.

“Your decisions should be in the best of all. You can’t be at all places in the same time, and that means that the residents can be where you are not; that tasks you to win their trust through doing good things that build communities and benefit the them. Drunkenness, engaging and abetting criminality including soliciting bribes, and failure to respond in time when called, are all things that damage your image and can’t be entertained,” he added.

He also urged them to put much effort in fighting trafficking of narcotic drugs, owing to the fact that Kirehe is one of the transit routes.Alexis Sekavenge, who heads DASSO in Kirehe, said that such a meeting reminds them of their duties and guides them.
