Over 200 members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs) and local leaders in Gahara sector of Kirehe District met on September 2 to assess the security status in the sector and to devise mechanisms to reinforce safety.
The meeting held in Ruhimba cell was presided over by Anastase Hategekimana, the Executive Secretary.
Hategekimana urged them to be exemplary and sensitize the public on development and community policing issues so as to work together to address security challenges.
Gahigi Harelimana, Kirehe District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), appealed to participants to fight consumption and sell of drugs including illicit brews and gins like Kanyanga, Chief Waragi, Blue Sky and cannabis which he said are associated with gender-based crimes, assault and theft.
He challenged them to maintain the existing collaboration with security organs to ensure crimes are prevented and to tighten night patrols.
He urged them to map-out areas prone to drugs, users and report them to organs concerned. He also appealed to participants to identify families that have internal wrangles and share information so that security organs can intervene before the conflicts turn violent.
