Commercial motorcyclists in Kirehe District have been called upon to take a shared responsibility in the fight against trafficking of narcotic drugs.
The call was made last week, by Supt. Cerestin Musuhuke, the District Police Commander (DPC) of Kirehe while meeting motorcyclists operating in Nyakarambi Sector
“Some of your colleagues that have been arrested trafficking narcotic drugs or transporting drug dealers in the past," the DPC said, warning them against such criminal acts.
He, however, thanked some motorcyclists who have been reporting drug dealers.
"We need your partnership to fight drugs; some of you know drug dealers or are hired by drug dealers to transport; always report such people; don't tarnish the image of your business profession," the DPC said.
He pointed out that crimes such as theft, assault, rape and defilement are fueled by drugs.
"Whenever to suspect someone to be a drug dealer or transporting drugs inform the Police and we will find out," he said.
Supt. Musuhuke further called upon the motorcyists to always respect traffic rules and regulation to prevent fatalities that may arise out of their recklessness and violation of safety standards.
Most accidents either involve or are caused by motorcyclists, according to statistics.
The meeting was in line with the ongoing first week of the 2018 Police Week, which focuses on raising awareness against drugs, one of the high impact crimes affecting especially the young people.
