Sixty people who include members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs) and local community security personnel in Kimihurura sector of Gasabo district were on May 8 given skills in using fire-fighting equipment to put out fire.
They were taken through practical lessons of how to use fire extinguisher, sand and water to put out fire.
The exercise was organised by Rwanda National Police in partnership with Kimihurura sector as part of the former’s programme to teach Rwandans how to prevent fire outbreak and how to contain it, in case it breaks out.
The District Police Commander, Chief Supt. Johnson Ntaganda urged the participants to always provide Police with timely information on any fire incident and other things that threaten security and safety in their communities.
He also challenged them to strengthen their community policing activities and identify individuals that could be involved in various illegal and criminal acts as one of the effective ways to prevent crimes.
Nyiridandi Mapambano, Kimihurura sector executive secretary thanked Rwanda National Police for extending such schools to the public to ensure their own safety.
He also lauded the force for capacitating Kimihurura policing activities including a vehicle – double-cabin – they won in the security and hygiene competition, saying that it facilitates night patrols in surveillance, among others.
Mapampano urged participants to utilise and share the acquired skills with their colleagues to always contain fires before destroying properties.
