Police in Nyarugenge District have apprehended three suspected thieves said to be behind series of house break-ins stealing especially electronics.
According to the Central region Police spokesperson, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Marie Gorett Umutesi, the suspects were arrested in collaboration with the District Security Support Organ (DASSO).
She identified the trio as Charles Harerimana, 39, Emmanuel Ndayisaba and David Harerimana, who was taken into custody on April 19.
“They were identified by residents to be behind house break-ins including the latest case where they broke into the house of one Jean Berchmas in Rubungo Village, where they stole assorted household items including two telephone handsets,” CIP Umutesi said.
She explained that the suspects have since been handed over to Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB).
The spokesperson disclosed that other five suspected pickpockets were also arrested by Police and DASSO in Nyarugunga Sector of Kicukiro District.
Assorted items stolen from different people were also recovered from the suspects, she said.
“Some of the items such as phones and other electronics recovered from the five suspects have been handed over to rightful owners,” she said.
She warned that similar operations will continue also targeting shops dealing in stolen items, and thanked residents for sharing credible information which lead to the arrest of suspects.
