Kicukiro: Traders acquire skills in firefighting

About 320 traders in Ziniya market in Kicukiro district were on August 27 sensitized on how to prevent fire outbreak and how to put it out in case it breaks out.

The awareness and training is part of the Rwanda National Police ongoing campaign to sensitize the general public against fire outbreak.

Inspector of Police (IP) Dieudonné Mutaganda from the Rwanda National Police Fire and Rescue Unit told the traders that damaged electrical appliances, substandard and poor electrical installation cause short circuit which in return results into fire breakout.

The traders went through a demonstration in which they were taught how to put out fire using dry sand and water.

IP Mutaganda appealed to the traders to be cautious on anything that may cause fire and always hurry to call Police on 111 and 112 (hotlines), 07888311224, 07888311120 and 0788311335 for quick response.

“I now know how I can behave and act in case of fire outbreak. There is no point for one to lose millions just because of selfishness. We should respond jointly in case of fire and take precaution like acquiring fire extinguisher and other equipment,” Jimmy Gashagaza, one of the traders, said.
