Kicukiro to train community night patrols

Kicukiro District will train all members of community night patrols in various policing disciplines as a way of strengthening measures against crimes in a professional manner.

This is one of the resolutions of the district security meeting held on May 15 at the district headquarters in Kagarama sector.

The meeting presided over by Mayor, Paul Jules Ndamage, was convened to review the security status in the district and to draw collective measures against security challenges, especially theft.

It was also attended by sector, cell and village local leaders and security organs.

It was observed that theft-related cases are still rampant in the district, which requires collective stringent measures to effectively fight it.

The meeting also unanimously agreed that local leaders strengthen their cooperation with the population to identify suspected bandits behind thefts which are in most cases conducted at night in homes and know their hideouts to easily apprehend them.

It was also agreed that a special training of all members of community night patrols in the district be conducted on May 24 to give them more skills in policing.

Mayor Ndamage challenged the local leaders to shift from fighting to preventing crimes through working and laying jointly strategies with communities.

Chief Inspector of Police Anasthase Karango, District Police Commander observed that the suspected bandits are either residents in the district or are facilitated by individuals residing in the district, which requires involvement of residents to easily identify them.
