About seventy heads of schools and teachers from various secondary schools in Kanombe, Masaka and Nyarugunga sectors in Kicukiro district were on August 27 given practical lessons on how to fight and prevent fire outbreak.
Inspector of Police (IP), Dieudonné Mutaganda from the Rwanda National Police Fire and Rescue Unit taught the mentors on how to use various firefighting gadgets such as fire extinguisher.
The trainees underwent a demonstration on how to use fire extinguishers, water and sand to put out fire.
IP Mutaganda explained to participants that most of the fire incidents result from short circuit mainly caused by damaged, poor and old electrical installations.
Others, he noted, are due to over loading week electrical gadgets like sockets.
He appealed to owners and heads of schools to acquire firefighting equipment.
He appealed to them to always rush to call the Police in case of fire break out.

Inspector of Police (IP), Hamdun Twizeyimana, Kicukiro District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), urged the participants to revive and establish anti-crime clubs in their respective schools to fight crimes like drug abuse.
