Kicukiro : Students aged 13-18 in holidays tipped on drugs abuse

Kicukiro district Community Liaison Officer (DCLO), Inspector of Police (IP),Hamdun Twizeyimana,on July 30, had a meeting with two hundred students, aged between 13-18, now at their homes enjoying their second term academic year holidays in which he taught them of the effects of drug dealing and urged them to refrain the vice and actively participate in  its fight in their respective schools and communities.

The function, organized in partnership with World Vision was held in Gako cell of Nyarugunga sector.

IP Twagirayezu cited Kanyanga,chief waragi,African gin,cannabis,among the drugs, saying, they may entice them to commit crimes like theft, assault and rape, which are punished under Rwandan Penal Code.

Other effects, he added, include unwanted pregnancies, school drop-outs, and early parenthood.

“If you really want to be good citizens beneficial to yourselves and the country in general, you are to abstain anything that may smash both your  physical and intellectual capacity up, drug dealing included, and sensitize others the same,” IP Twagirayezu ,said.

He appealed to the teenagers to report in time those involved in various crimes, including drug dealing, by calling Police toll-free lines or informing the nearest Police stations on any security threatening thing despite the ties with those involved.

He said the drugs are sneaked into the country through porous borders.

John Bigabo who represented World Vision at the function said, this kind of session is vital to prepare the youth into good citizens.

Bigabo reiterated continued collaboration and concerted efforts to prevent the youth from such an illegal and life-threatening business.

The students pledged continued asceticism and fight of drugs and other crimes in their communities and their respective schools and report in time those involved regardless of the ties.
