Kicukiro residents urged to strengthen campaign against crimes

Residents of Kicukiro should play an active role in ensuring sustainable security in their area as well as collaborate with Rwanda National police and other security organs to avert any suspicion of criminality.

The message was delivered by the Gikondo Executive Secretary, Nathan Kanyesigye, on December 9 during a meeting with the sector administrators and police authorities.

The event which was chaired by Kanyesigye and his counterpart, Alex Mugabo, the Executive Secretary of Gatenga Sector, sought to discuss with residents of the district and assess the security status.

“Residents in Kicukiro should sustain the peace that has been achieved so far and strengthen cooperation with security organs to fight and prevent the few challenges that still exist. We should all exploit the existing channels to develop relations with Police through provision of timely information which has led to the arrest of wrongdoers,” Kanyesigye said.

His counterpart Mugabo thanked the residents for endeavoring to sustain peace through the community-policing mechanism and commended them for not shying away from reporting crimes related to drug abuse and gender-based-violence.

“Security has improved in our sector but we have to ensure that no one disrupts what we have achieved”, Mugabo said, adding that: “Residents have used the right channels to find solutions to their problems and I urge you to double their effort to reinforce security in this area.”

Inspector of Police  Hamdun Twizeyimana, the District Community Liaison Officer, urged residents to give security priority as the foundation to the country’s development.

He also warned entertainment spots such as bars and night clubs in the area against selling alcohol to minors and also called on residents to tighten community-policing patrols.
