Commercial motorcycle operators in Kicukiro district have been cautioned against bad maneuvers and over speeding which lead to road accidents.
While speaking to over 300 motorcyclists organized under a cooperative in a French acronym, COCHATAMOKO, on October 27 in Kagasa cell, Inspector of Police Hamdun Twizeyimana, the District Community Liaison Officer said their misconducts on roads makes people pay direly.
“You don’t put only your lives at stake but also those of others like passengers and pedestrians. Your dependants also safer setbacks when you get hospitalized or perish in such avoidable accidents,” IP Twizeyimana noted.
He also appealed to them to respect traffic lights and desist from overloading especially carrying both passenger and their luggage. He also warned them against joining the profession without all requirements like driver’s licence and transport authorization offered by the national utility body RURA.
IP Twizeyimana further challenged owners of motorcycles to monitor closely the operations of their bikes and appealed to heads of cooperatives to follow up the conducts of their members.
He also appealed to them to be agents of crime prevention by reporting anyone that could be involved in illegal acts like drug abuse and theft.
“The meeting was vital because it reminded us of our role as patriotic Rwandans to ensure road security but also join all Rwandans and security organs in particular in creating a crime free society,” Jean de Dieu Twizeyimana, the President of COCHATAMOKO, said.
“We run this kind of business and earn a living because there is security in our country. We are obliged to contribute towards sustainability security by reporting any illegal and in time,” he added.
