A total of 708 members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs) in Kicukiro District completed one day training in crime prevention on Wednesday as the district strengthens measures against crimes.
It is the second course of its kind for CPCs in Kicukiro following the first one held in June last year which also benefited 648 others.
There are 1804 members of CPCs in Kicukiro.
During the one-day workshop, participants were urged to tighten crime prevention strategies especially against drug abuse, gender and domestic violence, which are still relatively high in the district.
They were also trained in firefighting and crime scene management.
Paul Jules Ndamage, the district mayor also urged participants to always share timely information with security organs on things that might affect public safety, ignore rumours which are caused by critics and always record new people in their localities in ‘Umudugudu records book.’
Ndamage also pledged 369 more phones for all coordinators of CPCs at all 328 villages and 41 cells in the district.
Chief Inspector Anastase Karango, District Police Commander also echoed the need for more efforts in fighting and preventing crimes such as gender based violence and drug abuse.
