Inspector of Police Hamdun Twizeyimana, Kicukiro District Community Liaison Officer met with over 200 bicycle taxi operators in Gatenga, Kagarama, Niyoye and Kicukiro sectors and reminded them to operate in an orderly manner and respect road traffic rules.
In a meeting held on October 17 in Gatare cell, Niboyi, IP Twizeyimana also urged them to offer good services to passengers and reinforce security in their business and communities.
He observed that some of their colleagues involved in illegal acts like facilitating, dealing or consuming illicit drugs and urged them to distance themselves and report such individuals, who tarnish their image.
He further appealed to them to strengthen their collaboration with Police in fighting and preventing such crimes to further improve security.
Marie Rose Nirere, the Executive Secretary of Niboye also reminded the commercial cyclists that it is also teir responsibility to fight anything that can affect the peace and security Rwandans enjoy today.
She urged them to embrace and own government development programs like “Umuganda” and subscribe to the community health insurance scheme, Mutuelle de santé.
“We operate and earn a living because there is security in our areas of operation. We therefore have to actively part in the prevention and fight anything that may impend on security or tarnish our profession,” Haruna Sekamana, one of the cyclists said.
