On Monday, January 8, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), CG Felix Namuhoranye, received a courtesy call from the Vice-President for Global Education at Kent State University, USA, Dr. Marcello Fantoni, at the Rwanda National Police (RNP) General Headquarters, Kacyiru.
They expressed mutual appreciation for the existing cooperation and emphasized the need to strengthen ties in various areas of education and research, among others.
Rwanda National Police and Kent State University signed an agreement in January last year, to develop academic and cultural interchange through mutual assistance in areas of education and research; development of programmes and academic exchange.
Currently, four RNP officers are pursuing various academic programmes at Kent State University; one on PhD and three others on Master's programme.
Dr. Fantoni and his delegation, including Kent State University students and academic staff, were also briefed on the RNP community policing model and its impact on crime prevention and human security.
Previously, students from Kent State University also visited Rwanda to learn how the RNP works with communities in peacebuilding and other initiatives developed to contribute to the national homegrown solutions.
